We have formed three committees. They are all interelated, but they also have specific jobs so that we can increase inefficiency and make some changes.

Some thoughts on each.

EDUCATION and EVENTS
How can we educate the student body about sustainable food? What can we or others do to create more of an educational presence on campus?
-Carrot drive/sell flowers on vendors row with informational leaflets attached (recycled paper)
-Present life cycle analysis of one dining hall meal
-Large imagery throughout campus and within dining halls
Photography, posters
advertising (marketing class)
-“Film Feastival”- include student posters, co-op catering
-Letter writing to companies, newspapers
-More events (concerts)
-Tabling in dining halls, include fliers about co-op, RFC, Sodexho, etc.
Give out seeds, sprouts, plants; edible education
-Sustainability Column in the Western front?

*Bring it up any day at any chance! Make of goal of talking to x number of people per day

CO-OP
What must be contributed to the process of creating the co-op?
-Educate self
-Garner support
-Grant writing; cooking supplies, miscellaneous start-up costs (calculate), cost of securing a spot on vendors row
-Appeal to ALL Western (not only Fairhaven) students
-Start selling on vendors row, red square; ‘edible education’
-Practice making food from menu; continue looking for recipes that could be sold on vendors row; think seasonal

DINING SERVICES
What needs to be changed about dining services to make the food more sustainable? What can we do?
-Transparency
What does the food do to your body?
Better ingredients
Less meat
More alternative options for dietary needs
-Lobby for Sodexho to contract with Food Justice Conference was Alliance certified distributors, local farms, Growing Washington
-Organic fruits and vegetables
-How to afford better food? Waste Less!
BioX composting machine, Creativity with left overs, trayless, “less is more” policy
